For Barry White, Squirrel Hill Sports Bar is about community. It’s about sitting down and connecting with people over a drink and watching the game. From pool leagues to weekly poker nights, there are events for everyone. Barry, himself, can be seen most nights talking with patrons or playing pool in the weekly pool leagues. When he’s not frequenting the Squirrel Hill Sports Bar, he is at home with his beautiful, supportive wife and daughter.

Where some are born with a silver spoon, Barry was born with a shot glass and terrible towel in his hand. Originally from Swissvale, Barry was born into a family of bar owners. His Grandfather opened the first family bar, the Whitehawk, in Homewood in 1938. During the 60’s, his father and uncle opened Red Whites and Down Under Disco in Regent Square. In 1996, Barry joined the family tradition and opened his first establishment, the Whitehawk, in Penn Hills. Squirrel Hill Sports Bar opened its doors in 2014 where it quickly became the best spot in Pittsburgh to catch a game.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Barry expanded the Squirrel Hill Sports Bar to add a 225-capacity live music venue – realizing a dream of late Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller – who attended high school across the street at Taylor Allderdice High School
